Don't get me wrong, Suzuragi is a fantastic artist, but Akio Watanabe has still captured the essence of our beloved games club members and with the additional fact that he is a former animator for SHAFT makes me love it that much more. Had the game been done in Karin Suzuragi's style (the og higurashi mangaka) then it probably wouldn't have been as well received. If you want to just dip your toes into the water, there's no better place to start than with Higurashi When They Cry Hou - Ch.1 Onikakushi.Despite the somewhat rough animations in battle, I'm overall elated to be playing this game (with an easy to use translator, yes I shilled out $11 for 200IQ just to use the qooapp servant bite me) I've been a fan of the WTC series for quite some time now, having been introduced to it in 2010, and I disagree with most who say the artstyle clashes with the "aesthetic". The feeling that something is about to go horribly wrong is prevalent throughout the whole game, which combined with its initial cute, slice of life writing to feel even more jarring once things finally do go wrong. He decides to start investigating, which is a bad idea for a horror game. However, there are murders and disappearances that happen once a year, and nobody will tell the main character more about them. The game on paper looks juvenile - a cute girl slice of life game. If you've never played the games before, then this is the best possible place to start.
The game has a redone script and redrawn sprites that look and feel far more professional than before. This game is the latest English translation, and it is the best experience yet.
